Scarlett Wine Bar, Bangkok: A Review

We visited Scarlett Wine Bar the last time we were in Bangkok and were not disappointed with the experience. I had been looking for a beautiful rooftop terrace to take in the sunset and city views of Bangkok. Whilst the notorious Sky Bar, featured in The Hangover movie was the obvious choice, I wanted something a little less flash and a little more us. Enter, Scarlett Wine Bar. Scarlett Wine Bar is part of the R & B Lab group with restaurants and bars in Asia and across the globe.

Location: 188 Silom Road, Bangrak, 10500 Bangkok

Located on the 37th floor of the Pullman Bangkok Hotel G in Sathorn, it is centrally located, easy to get to and as you’ve probably guessed, has stunning views!

Cuisine: French

Dress code: Smart Casual

Why you should go?

The amazing open air terrace is a cool and comfortable spot to take in the sunset and expansive views of the city. The cocktails are also delicious and the staff are more than happy to take photos capturing your time at Scarlett and the stunning views of the city.

It also had a really chill vibe, where families, couples and singles could enjoy the space comfortably.

I also really enjoyed the decor, particularly the nostalgic tiles in the entrance lobby and centre part of the restaurant.

When to go?

We went  right at 6pm as the restaurant was opening so that we could catch sunset. It was the perfect time to go as the terrace balcony wasn’t crowded and we had front row seats to the most breath-taking sunset and view of the city.

What to drink?

G effect cocktail made with Hendricks Gin, cucumber syrup and rose champagne.

Be sure to check the specials menu for fun and exciting changes to the menu! Also wine offered by the glass are also listed here. And for beer lovers,

What to eat?

Being a vegetarian I was very impressed with the level of accommodation to my diet. I ordered the ‘Olio’ penne, requesting the bacon to be held off. What was returned to me was a delicious dish of perfectly cooked penne pasta, tossed with sauteed spinach and rocket and served with thin slices of parmesan cheese. I was more than thrilled with the extra effort the chef went to.

The meat-loving Northerner was equally satisfied with his meal of a lamb shank served in a natural jus on a bed of mash potatoes and sauteed vegetables.

Portions were more than satisfying and excellent value for money.

To end with?

While the dessert menu was tempting we opted for the G board with three cheeses and three cold cuts. The selection of cheese on offer was every cheese-lover living in Asia’s dream come true. I indulged by choosing a Manchego, Brie de Meaux, and an Oseau Iraty. We also had a cheeky espresso to round of the meal.

How to reserve?

Everything on the menu was delicious and served in a pleasing way. We were spoilt for choice with the range of options. Needless to say, I highly recommend Scarlett for a great evening out in Bangkok.

If you would like to head to Scarlett Wine Bar for drinks or dinner be sure to make a reservation either by telephone, online through their website or via their facebook page. I found response times to be fast via facebook when I contacted them about menu options.

Thanks to Guillame Places for taking such good care of us!

  3. I’ve only been to Bangkok and it was actually a bit of a nightmare 24 hours, but I’ve always wanted to go back and do it right. Will keep this gorgeous bar in mind if I do!

    • I was actually really apprehensive of visiting Bangkok the first time I went because I had heard the horror stories of traffic and people and general nightmarish stress on holiday, however both times I’ve gone it’s been bliss. If you do go out, do check it out to escape the chaos!
